Yemoja’s Daughters: A Personal Journey in Embracing Change at Midlife
At fifty, menopause brought unexpected changes to my identity, especially around body image. Through creating Yemoja’s Daughters as Sea Goddesses, I learned to accept weight gain as a natural part of aging, moving beyond my lifelong association with being small & slender.
Initially, my figures depicted mermaids, which felt more like reflections of youth, and I soon sought figures that honored mature wombmen—the queens, elders, and sages shaped by lived experience. Inspired by Renaissance art and ancient goddess imagery, my Sea Goddesses began to represent full-bodied, nurturing beings: half mammal, half divine. These figures reclaim space for beauty as older women, celebrating boldness, wisdom, and inner beauty. This creative process helps redefine beauty for wombmen everywhere, embracing our curves and fullness as naturally balanced and gorgeous!
